THE CHALLENGE
The challenge brief was to design behaviourally informed interventions for Adolescents in Ghana to have access to integrated sexual reproductive health and mental health services.

CONTEXT
The pregnancy rate among adolescent girls in Ghana has been increasing, highlighting significant concerns regarding sexual and reproductive health as well as mental health services. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Common Thread, in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana and the Ghana Health Service, initiated a comprehensive project aimed at addressing and mitigating these challenges.

SOLUTIONS
We ran a two-day co-creation sprint in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana and the Ghana Health Service, building upon insights gathered from field research. During this intensive session, the teams developed these effective solutions:

Team 1: SMS reminder systems and reward mechanisms aimed at encouraging parents to provide emotional and informational support to their children regarding sexual and reproductive health.

Team 2: A condom vending machine that could be installed in public spaces frequently visited by adolescents, facilitating discreet and convenient access.

Team 3: A platform to engage community stakeholders in combating stigma associated with sexuality.

Team 4: A superhero character dedicated to combating misinformation about family planning.

Team 5: Production of videos focused on comprehensive sex education to be used in schools, providing accurate and engaging information to adolescents in an educational setting.

These concepts were subsequently refined through a participatory design process, involving all stakeholders we engaged with during field research in generating ideas to enhance the solutions.

DESIGN PROCESS
We adhered to a comprehensive behavioural design process, integrating Human-Centred Design tools and methodologies alongside behavioural science models. Our approach encompassed the Discovery, Define, and Design phases.
