THE CHALLENGE AND CONTEXT
In August 2024, my family and I relocated within Johannesburg. One of the main challenges we faced was that the lounge in our new home was smaller than in our previous residence. Additionally, a built-in cabinet further limited the available space. While we were able to fit a couch, the side table we previously used for the projector no longer fit comfortably. As a result, I needed to find a practical solution to enjoy watching shows despite the limited space.
SOLUTION
To address this challenge, I designed a custom side table that fits seamlessly into a compact space between the couch and the immovable, built-in cabinet. The base of the table is engineered to slide smoothly underneath the sofa, allowing it to easily move in and out and side to side. The tabletop is positioned 2 inches above the armrest of the couch, providing a secure surface for storing a laptop when not in use. This versatile piece of furniture can function both as a projector stand and as a convenient side table for coffee or other essentials.
