THE CHALLENGE
Design services that meet the changing needs of people fleeing from war between Russia and Ukraine.

CONTEXT
It had been over a year and a half since the conflict in Ukraine began. Three months after the outbreak of the war, UNICEF ECARO Poland office engaged Common Thread to conduct research and develop services using Human-Centered Design principles. These efforts aimed to address the urgent needs of Ukrainian refugees who had escaped the conflict and were now residing in Poland.

SOLUTION
We designed a modular service blueprint designed for deployment across UNICEF service centres, state-run operations, and community-led initiatives. We also developed supplementary tools to enhance service provision and uptake.

DESIGN PROCESS
We adhered to a comprehensive Human-Centred Design process. Our approach encompassed the Discovery, Define, and Design phases.
